The Year Is Not Over

But it almost is

Around this time, in mid-December, I am between “Wow, I cannot wait for the New Year” and “Wait, the year is not over yet”. Regardless, I think the next few days present a great opportunity for both feelings.

I believe it is important to be intentional in setting goals. We want goals and systems that stick not just something we write down on January first and forget about. This period in December is a perfect opportunity to set these intentions and reflect on the year past. So let’s build momentum going into a new year. As we know, we don’t need a date on a calendar to give us a fresh start. Every day is a new opportunity to make a change.

Here are some things you can do in the last two weeks of the year

  1. Reflect!

    • I recommend going through the year month by month, listing every accomplishment, trip, or milestone. You’ll be amazed at how full the year was.

    • You can also take sections of your life and rate them on a scale from 1-10. For example, individually looking at family, friends, faith, finances, professional, creativity, or whatever is important to you. This allows you the opportunity to look at strengths and weaknesses giving you more information to create clear goals.

    • Another approach to reflecting is reviewing your vision board, goals, or ideas from last year. What resonates with you? What feels so far away? What have you achieved?

  2. Clean

    • This is an excellent opportunity to get organized physically! Set aside one hour to declutter. Go through your clothes and donate things you haven’t worn. Tackle that junk drawer. Maybe, choose one room and do a deep clean.

    • Let’s also look at our devices. Reorganize your computer, clear files and move miscellaneous items to folders. DELETE pictures too. I’m guilty of having over 2,000 videos and 15,000 pictures on my phone.

  3. Continue your habits strong

    • It’s never too late to revisit our habits. A couple of good habit days leading into the new year will lay a good foundation for our goals. There might also be some goals you won’t be able to finish, but you can continue to work towards it.

In the next couple of weeks, we’ll focus on the planning part. We’ll use our reflections to create attainable yet challenging goals.

As always have a great week and a Merry Christmas!!! I’ll pop back in before New Year's Eve!
